Mr Khamisu Mailantarki has declared his intention to run for the governorship seat in Gombe State under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Our Correspondent reports that Mailantarki is the 2023 governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Gombe State.
He formally joined the PDP in November 2024, stating his intention to help the opposition party unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
While speaking at the ceremony held at the PDP state secretariat in Gombe on Monday, Mailantarki who was represented by his campaign Director-general, Mr Adamu Bappah said he came to submit his expression of interest form to the party.
Bappah described Mailantarki as a leader that is highly connected with the grassroots and always willing to work for the people and the collective good of Gombe State.
He said that Mailantarki had proven to be a good leader having offered good representation to the delight of his constituents as a member House of Representatives representing Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye constituencies of Gombe State.
Responding, Alhaji Danazumi Adamu, the Deputy Chairman who represented the party Chairman, Gen. Abner Kwaskebe (retd), said the PDP’s doors remained open to all interested aspirants.
Adamu stated that the deadline for the submission of forms has been extended to allow more time for aspirants to submit their forms.
He stated that Mailantarki, one of the PDP gubernatorial aspirants, has already submitted his form, alongside 20 others contesting for seats in the State House of Assembly.
He added that aspirants who are unable to submit their forms at the state party secretariat could do so at their respective local government areas.
Also speaking, Alhaji Adamu Haruna, the party secretary, called on PDP chairmen at the local government level to encourage members to come forward and contest.
He urged them not to be discouraged, expressing confidence that the PDP would bounce back stronger.
