Governors Urged to Act Amid Hardship Protests – Obasa

The Lagos State House of Assembly convened on Thursday, urging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take decisive action to prevent a planned nationwide protest. Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa emphasized the need for state governments to calm tensions and protect lives and property, citing the enduring impact of the 2020 EndSARS protests.

Majority Leader Noheem Adams introduced the motion, calling for townhall meetings with stakeholders to address the concerns of the youth and potential protesters. Obasa praised the Lagos police commissioner for proactive measures and urged discussions with various community leaders to dissuade participation in the protest.

Lawmakers highlighted President Tinubu’s efforts, such as raising the minimum wage, and called for patience from citizens. They also stressed the importance of engaging with local governors due to increased federal allocations.
