Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have arrested a dismissed police inspector over alleged involvement in an interstate arms trafficking network linked to criminal groups operating across Nigeria.
The arrest was announced in a statement published by the Nigerian Army on June 15, 2026.
According to the Army, the operation was carried out by troops of Sector 6 in collaboration with Headquarters Operation ENDURING PEACE following intelligence reports on the
of illegal weapons across state lines.
The suspect was reportedly intercepted on Sunday, June 14, while travelling in a white Peugeot vehicle from Jos South to the Makera area of Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State.
Security operatives said a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray and a jack knife.
Additional items recovered included two mobile phones, two cutlasses, a police staff identity tag, photographs showing the suspect in police uniform, two ATM cards, a National Identification Number (NIN) card and N73,300 in cash.
The Army identified the suspect as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, who was previously attached to Nigeria Police Force Base 7, Abuja, but had since been dismissed from service.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect is alleged to have connections with an interstate arms trafficking syndicate accused of supplying weapons to criminal groups involved in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent activities.
The Army stated that the suspect remains in military custody and is undergoing further interrogation to identify other members of the alleged network, including financiers and supply routes.
It added that the arrest forms part of ongoing operations aimed at disrupting illegal arms trafficking and recovering illicit weapons across the country.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to address security challenges and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing operations.
