Iranian President Pezeshkian to Strengthen Ties with Iraq on First Foreign Visit
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to embark on his first official foreign trip since taking office, traveling to Baghdad on Wednesday at the invitation of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani.
Pezeshkian, who assumed the presidency in late July, will meet with top Iraqi officials during the visit to discuss bilateral relations and sign key cooperation agreements and security memoranda. The visit is seen as a strategic move to deepen ties between the two neighboring countries.
Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad-Kazem Al-e Sadeq, confirmed the significance of the trip, which aims to address critical issues such as border demarcation and regional security.
Mohammad-Mehdi Shahriari, a member of Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, noted that the visit seeks to bolster diplomatic relations and cooperation in various sectors.
Pezeshkian took office on July 30, following the tragic death of his predecessor, Ebrahim Raisi, in a helicopter crash in May.
