President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Muslim faithful across Nigeria to use the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud celebration to reflect on and imbibe the virtues and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The President, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, congratulated Muslims on the celebration and called on them to go beyond marking the birthday of the Holy Prophet by engaging in introspection, prayer and learning from his exceptional virtues.
Tinubu specifically urged Muslims to emulate the Prophet’s devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness, saying these qualities offered important lessons for Nigerians at a time the country faces various challenges.
“The Muslim faithful should make deliberate effort to adhere to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. There are great lessons of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness that we can all learn from the life of the Prophet,” the President said.
He also called on Islamic scholars and religious leaders to use the Maulud period to offer prayers for Nigeria and encourage their followers to translate the lessons of Prophet Muhammad’s life into greater commitment to the country.
According to the President, the celebration should provide an opportunity for Muslims to demonstrate the values of compassion, unity and service to humanity by reaching out to people in need.
He urged those marking the festival to extend a “hand of fellowship” to the needy and vulnerable, stressing the importance of caring for the less privileged in the spirit of the season.
Tinubu further called for prayers for the country, particularly against insecurity and other challenges affecting parts of Nigeria.
The President’s message comes as Muslims across the country commemorate Eid-el-Maulud, an occasion traditionally marked with prayers, religious lectures, processions and other activities celebrating the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
He urged Nigerians to use the occasion not only for religious observance but also for renewed commitment to values capable of strengthening peace, tolerance, compassion and national unity.
