Popular skit maker and actor, Mr Macaroni, has criticized the state of law and order in Nigeria following the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months on Thursday after filing a petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of sexual harassment. The decision has sparked widespread backlash, with critics questioning the Senate’s commitment to justice and accountability.
Reacting to the suspension, Mr Macaroni lamented what he described as a culture of impunity in Nigeria. “It’s not as if these countries we call ‘saner climes’ are not corrupt, but the difference is that they have at least some sense of accountability,” he wrote on X.
He further criticized the abuse of power in the country, stating that individuals with influence or money can act without consequences. “From the impunity in the Senate to the shamelessness and abuse of power by security agents, there is a total lack of regard for the Nigerian people. The real problem we have is the zero consequence for actions,” he added.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension has ignited debates about political repression and gender-based discrimination within Nigeria’s legislative system, with many calling for reforms to ensure accountability and justice.
