The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State has declared its readiness to challenge the state’s political status quo in the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that it will secure the governorship and other elective positions through what it described as overwhelming grassroots support.

The optimism was expressed on Tuesday during a solidarity visit by the party’s Nasarawa South Zonal leadership to the member representing Keana Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mohammed Adamu-Omadefu, in Lafia.

Leading the delegation, the SDP Nasarawa South Zonal Chairman, Abdullahi Ari, said the party had continued to gain widespread acceptance across the state and was well-positioned to emerge victorious in the next election cycle.

The delegation included state party officials, the SDP Chairman in Keana Local Government Area, Ibrahim Ogiri, and the party’s 10 ward chairmen in the council.

According to Ari, “The party enjoys grassroots support and wider acceptance across the state and is poised to take over the state in 2027.”

He explained that the visit was aimed at identifying with Adamu-Omadefu and reaffirming the party’s support for his anticipated third-term bid in the 2027 elections. He added that the meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss strategies for strengthening the party’s structures in Keana Constituency and across Nasarawa State.

Projecting confidence in the party’s governorship ambition, Ari said, “By God’s grace, retired IGP Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu, our governorship candidate, will win the governorship seat in 2027. This is because he has grassroots support across the state.”

He also endorsed the lawmaker’s re-election bid, stating, “The lawmaker, Adamu-Omadefu will be elected for a third term in 2027 because he has done well and is still doing his best for the development of Keana LGA.”

Ari urged party executives and members to remain united and embrace teamwork to strengthen the SDP ahead of the polls.

Responding, Adamu-Omadefu thanked the party leadership for the visit and reaffirmed his commitment to working with party members to achieve electoral success.

He expressed confidence that retired Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu and the SDP would record a landslide victory in Nasarawa State in the 2027 elections.

The lawmaker said he joined the SDP to contribute meaningfully to the party’s growth and to help secure victory in the next general election.

He also called on party executives and stakeholders to intensify mobilisation efforts and sensitise residents on the party’s programmes in preparation for the polls.

Earlier, the SDP Chairman in Keana Local Government Area, Ibrahim Ogiri, assured Adamu-Omadefu of the unwavering support of party executives in the area.

Ogiri pledged that party leaders would continue to work in unity to strengthen the SDP ahead of the elections and urged members to mobilise support for retired IGP Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu, Adamu-Omadefu and other SDP candidates contesting in 2027.

Also present at the meeting were the State SDP Youth Leader, Jerry Alex, the State Welfare Officer, Yusuf Salihu, and other party officials.
