The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated agricultural equipment and food relief items to the Adamawa State government to assist those affected by recent flood disasters.

Speaking during the handover in Yola on Thursday, NEDC Managing Director Mohammed Alkali, represented by Fatima Bakari, the commission’s Acting Coordinator in the state, highlighted that the support aims to ease the suffering of flood victims and vulnerable communities. He added that the agricultural tools would boost food production across the state.

The donated farm equipment includes 16 rice mills, 8 oil press machines, 35 walking tractors, 35 tillers, 20 rotary tillers, 30 planters, 30 harvesters, 21 threshers, and 40 ridgers. Additionally, 40 disc ploughs, 2,000 bags of fertilizer, and 3 high-pressure water pumps were provided.

In terms of food and non-food relief items, the NEDC distributed 30,000 bags of rice, vegetable oil, pasta, blankets, mats, textile materials, and children’s clothing.

“This distribution represents our commitment to supporting the less privileged in society,” Alkali said. He also mentioned that the NEDC, in collaboration with the Adamawa government, is clearing 600 meters of drainage to mitigate future flood risks.

Mr. Dishi Khobe, Chairman of the State Food Security Committee, praised the NEDC’s efforts and assured that the items would be distributed fairly, following established guidelines.
