A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after tearing his academic certificates in a viral video, lamenting that attending university had not benefited him.

In the widely shared clip, the man, who disclosed that he graduated with a Second Class Upper degree in Psychology, was seen angrily ripping what appeared to be his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree certificate, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate.

Expressing frustration over his experience after graduation, the man said he regretted going to university, claiming that his academic qualifications had failed to yield the benefits he expected.

He lamented that despite his years of studying and hard work, his certificates had not helped him in the real world.

The video has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users expressing sympathy for the man and highlighting the challenges graduates face in securing employment and achieving financial stability.

Others, however, questioned whether the documents he destroyed were the original certificates or colour photocopies.

The incident has also reignited discussions about graduate unemployment, the value of university education and the difficulties many young Nigerians face in translating academic qualifications into meaningful career opportunities.
