The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has tasked the 1,626 officers from the Fourth Combined and Upgrading Course to uphold professionalism in border security.
The graduation ceremony, which culminated in a Passing Out Parade, was held at the Immigration Training School, Kano (ITSK) and the Digital Bridge Institute.
This is contained in a statement issued by Akinsola Akinlabi, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration (DCI), Service Public Relations Officer, (SPRO), on Sunday in Abuja.
Nandap, represented by the Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) in charge of Human Resources Management, Samuel Agba, stressed the importance of technology in addressing contemporary border security and migration management challenges.
The NIS CG reaffirmed the service’s commitment to continuous training, upgrading and welfare of its personnel.
The Commandant of the Immigration Training School, Kano, Mr Anthony Akuneme, said a record number of cadets were mobilised for the training, making it the largest in the history of the school.
Akuneme urged the graduating officers to remain responsive to the changing dynamics of border management by facilitating legitimate migration flows while preventing irregular migration and trans-border threats.
He emphasised the need for the officers to deploy the knowledge and skills acquired during the training in strengthening the country’s border security and migration management efforts.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremony also featured the presentation of merit awards to deserving participants in recognition of their outstanding performance during the course.
The high point of the event was the commissioning of an ultra-modern market constructed by the course participants as part of activities marking the completion of the training.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of various security agencies as well as senior serving and retired officers of the NIS.
