The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 45-year-old suspected motorcycle thief and recovered two suspected stolen motorcycles, 11 motorcycle number plates and other items linked to motorcycle theft.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi.
According to Hassan-Agalama, the suspect was arrested at his residence in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area, following credible intelligence linking him to a motorcycle theft syndicate operating in the Kano metropolis.
He said the arrest followed the tracking of a motorcycle with registration number GRR 958 QB (Jigawa) to the suspect’s residence.
“During a search of the residence, operatives recovered a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen from the premises of a hospital at Rijiyar Zaki, along Gwarzo Road, Kano” he said.
The Commandant said operatives also recovered another suspected stolen motorcycle, 11 registered motorcycle number plates, six screwdrivers, three pliers and three bunches of motorcycle keys believed to be connected to stolen motorcycles.
He added that the principal suspect, popularly known as “S-Guy”, was still at large.
“The command has launched a manhunt for him and is making concerted efforts to apprehend him and bring him to justice,” he said.
Hassan-Agalama commended the operatives for their vigilance and intelligence-led operation, assuring residents that the command would continue to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in motorcycle theft and other forms of criminality across the state.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with useful information that could assist in preventing and detecting crime.
The Commandant further said the suspect in custody would undergo thorough investigation and be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon completion of the investigation.
