Suspected Boko Haram Insurgents Attack Borno School, Abduct Pupils
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly attacked a school in Borno State, abducting an unspecified number of pupils during a raid that caused panic in the community.
According to reports, the gunmen stormed the school premises on Friday, firing sporadically before taking several students to an unknown location.
The exact number of abducted pupils had yet to be confirmed as security agencies continued efforts to assess the situation.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the attackers arrived in large numbers and overwhelmed the area before security operatives could intervene.
“We heard gunshots and people started running. Before we realised what was happening, some of the children had been taken away,” the source said.
Security , including troops and local vigilante groups, were reportedly deployed to the area shortly after the attack to pursue the assailants and rescue the abducted pupils.
