Suspected Terrorist Family and 2 Children Surrender to Borno Troops

A 45-year-old woman identified as Mrs Yaganama Abdul, suspected to be a family member of terrorists, has surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army alongside her two children in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Abdul reportedly surrendered to troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion at about 4 p.m. on August 28 after fleeing the Burari terrorist enclave.

The two children who accompanied her were identified as nine-year-old Yafatai Abdul and four-year-old Guja Abdul.

Preliminary interrogation by the troops indicated that the family escaped from the enclave following violent clashes between rival terrorist factions operating in the area.

The woman and her children were subsequently profiled and documented by the military as part of ongoing security and intelligence procedures.

Their surrender is expected to provide security agencies with valuable information on activities within the terrorist enclave, including possible insights into the internal dynamics and clashes among rival factions.

The development also highlights the sustained pressure being mounted on terrorist groups through military operations and intelligence-led efforts across the North-East.

The military said the general security situation in the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops continued to maintain a satisfactory level of morale and operational effectiveness.

Security forces are continuing operations aimed at degrading terrorist networks, protecting communities and encouraging individuals seeking to disengage from terrorist groups to surrender through established channels.
