The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100 million to support families affected by the recent tanker explosion in Niger State.
During a visit to Gov. Umaru Bago at the Government House in Minna on Tuesday, Tinubu expressed her condolences over the tragic incident and announced that the funds would be distributed through the governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Bago.
The tanker explosion, which occurred on Jan. 18 along Diko-Maje Road in Gurara Local Government Area, claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.
Tinubu stated that N70 million would be allocated to 70 affected families, with each receiving N1 million, while the remaining funds would cover additional support such as food supplies.
“We are committed to helping the affected families rebuild their lives,” she said, commending the governor’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate victims and improve agriculture in the state.
Gov. Bago thanked the First Lady for her visit, describing it as a morale booster for the victims and the entire state.
“We appreciate your kind gesture and support during this difficult time,” he said.
The First Lady was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, and Hajiya Fatima Bago. She also paid private visits to former military leaders Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar.
