University student allegedly stabbed to death after £3,000 debt, fake Rolex dispute

A 20-year-old university student was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow student following a dispute over an alleged £3,000 debt and a fake Rolex, a UK court has heard.

Khaleed Oladipo, a third-year cyber security student at De Montfort University in Leicester, was reportedly walking home from his girlfriend’s flat on February 3 when he was allegedly attacked by 18-year-old Harper Dennis.

Leicester Crown Court heard that Oladipo was speaking to his girlfriend on the phone when he allegedly confronted Dennis and asked why he had attacked him. He later collapsed and was rushed to hospital, where he died.

Prosecutors said Oladipo and Dennis had previously been friends after meeting through online gaming and belonging to the same Snapchat group.

However, their relationship reportedly deteriorated over money. Dennis allegedly claimed that Oladipo owed him £3,000.

The court also heard that Dennis had previously received a Rolex from Oladipo to sell, but the watch was later identified as counterfeit by a jeweller in London.

Prosecutors alleged that Dennis was embarrassed and angered by the incident, while messages exchanged between the pair showed how badly their relationship had deteriorated.

In one alleged message, Dennis reportedly told Oladipo that he would “dedicate his life” to making him suffer.

On the day of the incident, prosecutors said the two men became involved in a brief physical confrontation before Oladipo was fatally injured.

Dennis was arrested later that night at his university accommodation. Police reportedly recovered several knives from his flat, along with clothing believed to have been worn during the incident.

Dennis denies murder and maintains that he acted in self-defence. He is also charged with possessing a bladed article and failing to provide the PIN for his phone.

The trial, which is expected to last three weeks, is ongoing.
