In a move that blurs the line between science fiction and everyday reality, a Chinese technology company has unveiled a new generation of life-sized, hyper-realistic humanoid robots designed not merely to perform tasks but to offer companionship.
Marketed as “emotional companions,” the robots are being introduced as intelligent assistants capable of helping with household chores, providing daily companionship and encouraging social interaction. The launch, reported by Global Times, has attracted widespread attention, reigniting global conversations about the growing role of artificial intelligence in people’s personal lives.
The new humanoids come in two versions—a male model standing 183 centimetres tall and weighing about 42 kilograms, and a female model measuring 168 centimetres and weighing 35.2 kilograms. Built to closely mimic human behaviour, the robots can reportedly reproduce more than 90 per cent of basic human movements, making interactions appear remarkably natural.
What truly sets the machines apart, however, is their advanced emotional intelligence. According to the developers, the robots are powered by what they describe as the world’s first large-scale “emotional” AI model, capable of recognising more than 20 emotional states with over 90 per cent accuracy. The technology is designed to learn and adapt through long-term interaction, allowing the robots to build increasingly personalised relationships with their owners.
Although the company has introduced models across different price ranges, the current offerings are targeted primarily at technology enthusiasts and corporate clients. Developers say the cost is expected to decline as production expands, making the robots more accessible to the wider public.
Interest has already exceeded expectations. More than 10,000 pre-orders have been placed, while the company plans to manufacture as many as 50,000 units in 2026 as it prepares for large-scale production.
Beyond the impressive technology, the launch has ignited an intense debate online about the future of human relationships in the age of artificial intelligence.
Supporters see the humanoids as a practical solution to modern challenges such as loneliness, ageing populations and independent living. They argue that the robots could remind users to take medication, provide emergency assistance and offer companionship to people who might otherwise live in isolation.
Critics, however, warn that emotionally responsive AI companions could unintentionally weaken genuine human relationships. They fear that as people grow attached to increasingly sophisticated machines, face-to-face social interactions and community bonds could gradually diminish.
