Why Mide Martins, Cast Broke Down in Tears on Movie Set

Nollywood actress Mide Martins has revealed that she and members of her cast were overcome with emotion while filming a powerful scene for an upcoming movie.

The actress shared a video on her Instagram page showing herself, Yetunde Barnabas, Jide Awobona and other cast members in tears after shooting the emotional sequence.

According to Martins, the scene was so moving that the actors continued crying even after the director called “cut,” with cast members consoling one another on set.

She explained that the storyline resonated deeply with them, especially as mothers, making it difficult to hold back their emotions.

“This scene was so powerful when we were shooting. It was so touching that I couldn’t stop crying even after the director said cut. Everyone got emotional at the end of the scene, and we were all just crying and consoling each other. As mothers, we all felt the depth of the situation in this particular scene. May God console every single mother out there experiencing such pain and agony, one way or another. We will never have cause to cry over our children,” she wrote.

Martins, one of the leading stars in the Yoruba film industry, has continued to earn recognition for her performances over the years.

In 2025, she celebrated winning the Best Actress award for the second time, expressing gratitude to God for her career journey. She also acknowledged actor Odunlade Adekola for supporting her craft and thanked her husband, Afeez Owo, for standing by her.

The actress also won the Best Actress award at the 2024 Odunlade Adekola Film Production Awards, where she described her journey in Nollywood as challenging but rewarding. During her acceptance speech, she thanked God for His grace and praised her husband for his unwavering support following the death of her mother.

In 2023, Martins was honoured with the Face of Nollywood award, which she dedicated to her fans and everyone who has supported her career.
