Yobe Government Seeks BADEA Partnership for Post-Insurgency Recovery
The Yobe State government, led by Governor Mai Mala Buni, has initiated talks with Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), to explore collaborative efforts for post-insurgency rebuilding. The discussions took place on Tuesday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Governor Buni emphasized the urgent need for international assistance to restore Yobe’s infrastructure after years of devastation caused by Boko Haram insurgency, with the state being the second hardest hit by the violence.
The insurgency led to extensive loss of lives, destruction of property, and mass displacement.
Though peace has been restored, Buni highlighted that Yobe’s economy remains fragile and unable to sustain the scale of reconstruction required. He specifically requested BADEA’s support in agriculture, a vital sector for the state’s recovery.
The governor also outlined Yobe’s progress, including its agricultural empowerment initiatives and the development of an international cargo airport to stimulate trade and investment.
Dr. Sidi Ould Tah praised the state’s efforts and expressed BADEA’s interest in forming partnerships to assist in Yobe’s rehabilitation and development programs.
