Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has rewarded 30 students who successfully memorised the Holy Qur’an with N1 million each, as part of efforts to encourage Islamic education and human capital development in the state.
Zulum announced the financial support on Sunday at the graduation ceremony held at the Indimi Mosque in Maiduguri.
The governor also approved N2 million each for eight teachers who trained the graduating students, bringing the total financial support to N46 million.
The 30 graduates, who memorised the entire Holy Qur’an, were presented with certificates at the ceremony.
Zulum commended the founder of Indimi Islamic Trust, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, for his sustained contributions to Islamic education and the development of human capital, particularly in Borno State and the wider Northeast.
The governor urged Islamic scholars to embrace moderation and humility in their preaching, while promoting peace, unity and responsible citizenship among their followers.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening both formal and non-formal education across the state, stressing the need to provide young people with broad-based educational opportunities.
Zulum also emphasised the importance of integrating Islamic learning with Western education, saying such an approach would equip young people with knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
According to him, education remained critical to producing a responsible and productive generation capable of contributing meaningfully to society.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Indimi, Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources, has supported several educational initiatives across the Northeast and Nigeria.
His interventions include a recent N2 billion donation to the University of Maiduguri education endowment fund.
The ceremony was attended by the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Garbai; Sen. Mohammed Monguno; Shettima Bukar; and the Chief Imam of Borno, Imam Zannah Ibrahim, among other dignitaries.
The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the academic and spiritual achievement of the graduates, while recognising the contribution of the Indimi Islamic Trust to the promotion of Qur’anic education in Borno State.
