72-Year-Old Suspect Arrested Over Murder of Ghanaian Fashion Designer, Uncle in ₦500,000 Debt Dispute
A 72-year-old man, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, has been arrested in Ghana over the alleged murder of a fashion designer, Irene Atuguba, and her uncle, George Atuguba, following a financial dispute involving GH¢500,000.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at his hideout in Tikrom, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, after a police manhunt.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had been wanted in connection with the killing of the two relatives at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident was allegedly triggered by a financial disagreement between Osei Anto and George Atuguba, 57, who reportedly owed the suspect GH¢500,000.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly visited the victims’ residence on the morning of Friday, October 30, accompanied by a 47-year-old woman, Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment of the money.
A misunderstanding reportedly broke out during the encounter, after which the suspect allegedly shot and killed George and his 47-year-old niece, Irene.
The victims were rushed to a hospital but were pronounced dead by a medical officer. Their bodies were subsequently deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Mumuni was earlier arrested by the police for her alleged involvement in the incident. She was suspected of leading the principal suspect to the victims’ residence before the shooting.
Following the killings, the police declared Osei Anto wanted and announced a GH¢100,000 reward for anyone who could provide credible information leading to his arrest.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command said the suspect was apprehended following intelligence gathering on his whereabouts.
During the operation, officers reportedly recovered a Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition from him.
The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while the recovered firearm and ammunition have been retained as exhibits.
The police said further details regarding the arrest and ongoing investigation would be communicated.
