Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have neutralised three suspected bandits during a targeted offensive in Wase Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
The operation, which was based on credible intelligence, was carried out on Saturday along the outskirts of Pinau community, according to a statement issued on Sunday in Jos by Maj. Samson Zhakom, the Media Officer of OPSH.
“Yesterday, troops of OPSH, acting on credible intelligence, conducted offensive operations at a criminal hideout along the fringes of Pinau community in Wase LGA of Plateau,” Zhakom stated.
He said the troops encountered armed criminals suspected of terrorising residents and travellers along the Pinau–Gimbi road.
“During the operation, troops made contact with criminal elements terrorising the general area, including Pinau–Gimbi road,” he said.
Zhakom explained that the soldiers engaged the bandits in a gun duel and overpowered them.
“During the exchange of fire, troops overwhelmed the criminals with superior firepower and neutralised three of the suspected bandits,” he added.
While some of the assailants escaped with gunshot wounds, the troops combed the area and recovered weapons.
“While others ran away with wounds from gunshots, troops exploited the general area and recovered one AK-47 rifle and one AK-47 magazine,” Zhakom said.
He added that a follow-up operation was underway to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
