Nigeria’s Super Eagles will close out 2025 as the 38th-best team in the world, according to the latest FIFA rankings released on Monday.

The position is unchanged from the November 19 update, after the Eagles climbed three places from 41st in the previous ranking. Nigeria also maintained its sixth-place standing on the African continent.

Despite a mixed year, the Super Eagles made notable progress, ending 2025 six places above their opening ranking of 44th.

Nigeria’s first ranking of the year, released in April, saw the team rise to 43rd. However, subsequent updates recorded a dip to 44th in July and 45th in September.

A strong turnaround came in October when the Eagles surged to 41st, their biggest leap since February 2024, buoyed by their silver-medal finish at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The November rankings further lifted Nigeria three places to 38th, a position the team retains heading into 2026.

On the African scene, Morocco emerged as the continent’s top-ranked team, sitting 11th globally, followed by Senegal in 19th place. Algeria climbed to 34th, while Egypt slipped to 35th, ranking fifth in Africa.

Globally, Spain lead the world rankings, ahead of Argentina and France. England sit fourth, with Brazil in fifth, followed by Portugal and the Netherlands. Belgium, Germany and Croatia complete the top 10.

The next FIFA rankings are scheduled for release on January 19, 2026, one day after the AFCON final in Morocco.
