Russia Launches Missile and Drone Barrage on Kyiv, One Injured

Russia launched a heavy barrage of drones, cruise, and ballistic missiles targeting Kyiv in the early hours of Monday, triggering multiple explosions and sending residents into bomb shelters across the Ukrainian capital.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported that emergency services were deployed to the Holosiivskyi and Solomianskyi districts. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, one person was injured by falling debris.

Ukraine’s air force confirmed that Russian forces fired multiple groups of cruise and ballistic missiles, along with several drones, aimed at the capital and its surrounding areas. Kyiv’s military administration head, Serhii Popko, announced that Ukraine’s air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed over 10 cruise missiles, around 10 ballistic missiles, and one drone.

Meanwhile, in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, a strike hit the Industrialnyi district, igniting a residential building and several nearby structures, according to regional head Oleh Syniehubov. This follows Sunday’s missile attack in Kharkiv, which injured 47 people and damaged a shopping mall, sports facility, and residential buildings.

Monday’s assault comes shortly after Russia claimed to have intercepted 158 Ukrainian drones in one of the largest counterattacks of the war, and amid ongoing tensions following Ukrainian forces’ incursions into Russia’s Kursk region.
