Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State, has urged private security operatives to maintain professionalism, discipline, and follow operational standards strictly.

Hassan-Agalama made the call on Friday in Kano as 131 private security operatives graduated from a capacity-building training programme.

The training was organised by the NSCDC Kano State Command through its Private Guard Companies Department, in collaboration with the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALSPN), Kano State chapter.

He said the programme was designed to strengthen the competence, ethical conduct and service delivery of private security personnel, in line with the statutory mandate of the corps to regulate and supervise private guard companies in Nigeria.

According to him, private security operatives play a complementary role in safeguarding lives and property, stressing that their conduct must reflect professionalism, respect for human rights and effective collaboration with statutory security agencies.

“The essence of this training is to equip you with modern security skills, instil discipline and ensure compliance with operational guidelines.

“You are expected to be good ambassadors of your companies and partners in progress with conventional security agencies,” he said.

The commandant warned against excesses, unprofessional conduct and abuse of office, noting that the corps would not hesitate to sanction any operative or company found wanting.

He also urged the ggraduands to remain vigilant, law-abiding and proactive in gathering and sharing credible intelligence with relevant authorities.

Hassan-Agalama reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to continuous training, monitoring and collaboration with licensed private security companies to enhance security across the state.

The Kano State Chairman of ALSPN, Dr Idris Adamu-Pukuma, commended the NSCDC for organising the training and partnering with the association.

He disclosed that 24 companies out of the 32 members of the association participated in the programme, assuring that the knowledge and skills acquired would be judiciously utilised by the guards.

Adamu-Pukuma pledged the association’s total compliance with regulations and operational guidelines aimed at improving the productivity and professionalism of private security operatives in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that awards of merit were given to Hassan-Agalama; Mr Nura Karofi of the Private Guard Companies Department;  and Adamu-Pukuma.

The programme featured parade and physical drills, lectures, presentation of certificates to graduating operatives and goodwill messages from some stakeholders in the private security sector.
