Royal Navy Personnel Dies in Helicopter Crash During Channel Exercise

A member of the UK Royal Navy has died following a helicopter crash in the English Channel during a night-flying exercise. The Merlin Mk4 helicopter, which was participating in a training drill with the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, went down off the Dorset coast on Wednesday night.

The Royal Navy confirmed the tragic incident on Thursday, stating that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. The family of the deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been notified.

“It is with great sadness that we must report the death of a Royal Navy member following a training incident last night. Our thoughts are with the family and all those affected,” the Royal Navy said in a statement.

No other fatalities or serious injuries were reported in the incident. The HMS Queen Elizabeth, described as the largest and most powerful vessel in the Royal Navy’s fleet, was involved in the exercise and is capable of carrying up to 40 aircraft.
