Water Supply Improved for 250,000 Residents in Niger Through UN-Habitat, South Korean Collaboration

More than 250,000 people in Niger State now have access to clean, reliable water following the rehabilitation of six water schemes by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the South Korean government.

The facilities, located in Doko, Gwada, Tegina, Beji, Tungan-Mallam, and Kataeregi, were restored as part of the UN-Habitat and South Korean Government National Urban Policy Programme.

Alhaji Akilu Kuta, Permanent Secretary of Niger’s Ministry for Water Resources, praised the intervention, highlighting that, prior to the project, only 7.5 percent of the state’s 53 bi-water schemes were operational.
