Eguavoen Confident as Super Eagles Arrive in Kigali for AFCON Qualifier

Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen is confident that his team has gained significant momentum ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Rwanda on Tuesday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The Super Eagles started their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo last Saturday, and the team now aims to carry that form into the upcoming fixture.

“We have the right mentality and the mood in camp is excellent,” Eguavoen said. “Everyone is focused on securing the three points in Rwanda to maintain our position at the top of the table. We’re here for business, and I’m pleased that the players are all on the same page.”

The Nigerian delegation, consisting of 23 players and team officials, arrived in Kigali on Sunday after departing from Uyo’s Victor Attah International Airport. The squad, led by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, landed at Kigali International Airport around 4:20 p.m. Nigerian time, giving the players ample time to rest before their final training session on Monday afternoon.

Team captain William Ekong emphasized the importance of staying focused throughout the match: “Our goal is clear – we want all three points. We’ve talked about the need to be aggressive from the start, knowing that Rwanda has a strong team. We must stay sharp for the full 90 minutes.”

Rwanda, known as the Amavubi, earned a 1-1 draw against Libya in their first match of the qualifiers, making Tuesday’s clash a crucial encounter for both sides. The match will kick off at 3 p.m. local time in Rwanda.
