An Iranian missile strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia has left at least 12 United States troops injured, including two in serious condition, while several military aircraft were also damaged.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the attack targeted the base located in Kharj, southeast of Riyadh, and involved both missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, marking one of the most significant breaches of US defences since the conflict with Iran began on February 28.

US officials said the incident forms part of a broader escalation in the region. The US Central Command noted that more than 300 American personnel have been wounded over four weeks of hostilities.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the conflict could persist for another two to four weeks, stressing that preventing Iran from imposing tolls on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz would be a major post-war challenge. He described any such move as “illegal” and a threat to global stability.

Meanwhile, Israel carried out a separate large-scale strike on Iranian targets, further intensifying tensions across the region.

The developments have rattled global markets, with oil prices climbing above $100 per barrel, while US stocks fell after President Donald Trump paused strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure.

In Yemen, the Houthi group signalled a possible expansion of the conflict, warning it could intervene directly if more countries join actions against Iran or if the Red Sea is used for military operations by the US or Israel.

Iran also said it had issued warnings to three vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and gas shipments, a day after Washington extended a deadline for Tehran to reopen the passage.

Tehran has continued to retaliate against US and Israeli strikes with waves of drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and several Gulf states hosting US military installations, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure.
