Midnight Fire Guts About 50 Shops at Ibadan Market

A fire outbreak has destroyed about 50 shops at the Bode Market area of Ibadan, Oyo State, in the early hours of Friday, with no casualties recorded.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. after residents alerted authorities to the inferno.

A team of police officers led by the Divisional Police Officer of Mapo Division swiftly responded to the scene, while firefighters were mobilised to contain the blaze.

The fire was eventually brought under control through the combined efforts of firefighters and local residents.

Police also secured the area to prevent hoodlums from exploiting the situation to loot goods from the affected shops.

Although approximately 50 shops were completely razed, no deaths or injuries were reported.

Authorities said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, while an assessment of the value of property destroyed is ongoing.

Police have commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
