Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have arrested two suspects and recovered a locally made firearm and a live cartridge following a violent altercation in Ikwuano Local Government Area of the state.
Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident was reported at the Ikwuano Police Station at about 12:35 p.m. on Friday by a resident, Chiemela Opara of Oloko Proper.
According to the complaint, Opara alleged that after an earlier dispute, one Chibueze Stephen returned to his residence at about 9:00 a.m. accompanied by three others and armed with a locally made short gun. The group allegedly threatened to kill him.
Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives mobilised to the scene and arrested Chibueze Stephen and one of his alleged accomplices, identified as Chukwuebuka Chinkee, while two other suspects escaped before officers arrived.
Police said Stephen had already sustained severe machete injuries, allegedly inflicted by local youths, before the arrival of the operatives. He was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
During the operation, officers recovered a locally made short gun and one live cartridge.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
