Kamala Harris’ Campaign Raises $200M, Adds 170K Volunteers
US Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign has raised $200 million and signed up 170,000 new volunteers in the week since she announced her candidacy.
This surge followed President Joe Biden’s decision to end his re-election bid and endorse Harris against Republican former President Donald Trump.
Rob Flaherty, Harris’ deputy campaign manager, revealed that 66 percent of the donations came from new donors.
Harris has also secured the support of most Democratic National Convention delegates, likely ensuring her nomination next month.
Harris, the first Black woman and Asian American vice president, raised $100 million within 36 hours of Biden’s announcement.
Her candidacy has revitalized the campaign, which had struggled with doubts about Biden’s electability and governance capabilities.
The final 100-day sprint to the US election began with Harris’ campaign reinvigorated and praised for its unprecedented fundraising success.
Campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu noted Harris had “one of the best weeks in politics in the last 50 years.”
