The Police Command in Katsina State, has commenced a comprehensive training for its patrol and guard officers to enhance their operational capabilities and improve public safety and security.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, said this at the opening of the programme on Monday in Katsina.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training aims to refresh the officers’ capability to remain in good shape to effectively combat crimes.
Abubakar-Musa observed that combatting crimes would only be achieved through equipping the police operatives with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively discharge their duties.
He added that the training covered range of topics such as; the core police duties and responsibilities, advanced weapon handling and tactics, defensive driving, and vehicle management.
Other topics, he said, were; communication and interpersonal skills, crisis management and conflict resolution, among others.
The CP emphasised the importance of training and retraining of police personnel amids security challenges.
“Officers must be equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to effectively respond to emerging security challenges and ensure protection of lives and property of the citizens of the state.
“The training programme is in line with the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to ensure a professionally competent and service-driven police force.
“A professionally competent and service-driven police force that can respond to the changing dynamics of security situation in the country,” he said.
He revealed that the command remained committed to providing top-notch training to its personnel and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
