Yahaya Bello Threatens Legal Action Against Media Over Alleged Anti-Tinubu Remarks

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has announced plans to sue the operators of an online platform, Daily Excessive, over a report alleging he made disparaging comments about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The report claimed that Bello, while in court, threatened to reveal details about how Tinubu became president. A statement from Michael Ohiare, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, dismissed the report as “mischievous” and “unintelligent,” calling it a deliberate attempt to strain the relationship between the former governor and the president.

“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading and senseless report published by a blog called Daily Excessive, attributing fake quotes to Alhaji Yahaya Bello,” Ohiare said. “This is a laughable attempt by detractors to create a rift between the president and the former governor. The claims lack credibility, especially since court records are public documents accessible to all.”

Ohiare emphasized that Bello has only entered pleas in his ongoing legal cases and that no trial proceedings have commenced. He also noted that the court remains an open venue where proceedings are monitored by journalists and stakeholders, making the alleged comments implausible.

“Alhaji Yahaya Bello holds immense respect for President Tinubu and would never make such remarks. He remains a staunch supporter of the president and the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement added.

The media office warned those behind the report, stating that security agencies had been alerted to uncover their identities. “We will ensure that the purveyors of this fake news face the full weight of the law,” Ohiare concluded.

Bello’s team urged Nigerians to disregard the report and refrain from sharing unverified information, describing it as a failed attempt to tarnish the former governor’s reputation.
