The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has lauded the National Assembly for the expedited screening of the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Musa expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the screening by the Senate and House Committees on Army.

“I am impressed with the manner in which the Senate and House Committees on Army conducted the process,” Musa said, emphasising the professionalism displayed.

The CDS assured lawmakers that Lt.-Gen. Oluyede would bring renewed energy and his extensive experience to the fight against insecurity if confirmed as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.

He also pledged that Oluyede would build on the achievements of the late COAS, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

Describing the National Assembly’s swift action as “patriotic and timely,” Musa highlighted the importance of such decisive measures in addressing the nation’s security challenges.

He reaffirmed the loyalty of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to constituted authorities and reiterated their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country.

“The AFN remains loyal to constituted authority in pursuit of its constitutional roles,” the defence chief stated.
