Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has paid tribute to fathers, describing them as the unsung heroes whose sacrifices and resilience constitute the foundation of stable families and a prosperous society.

In a goodwill message to mark the 2026 Father’s Day celebration, the governor said fathers play indispensable roles in nurturing families and strengthening communities despite prevailing economic and social challenges.

Fubara noted that across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State, countless fathers make enormous sacrifices daily to provide for their families, often enduring hardship and denying themselves comforts to secure a better future for their children.

According to him, Father’s Day offers an opportunity to celebrate the quiet acts of love, commitment and selflessness that define fatherhood and sustain societies across generations.

“A father’s love is quiet strength. It is the man who leaves home before dawn and returns after dusk so his children can eat and go to school. It is the man who denies himself so his family can have. It is the firm hand that corrects and the open arms that forgive. That love is the invisible thread that holds our homes together, and that sacrifice is the foundation of our society,” the governor said.

Reflecting on the struggles endured by many fathers, Fubara said he had seen men labour under harsh conditions, paddle through floods and persevere through adversity simply to create opportunities for the next generation.

“That is heroism without medals,” he added.

The governor stressed that responsible fatherhood is critical to building stable homes and peaceful communities, arguing that the strength of Rivers State ultimately depends on the strength of its families.

“When fathers stand, families stand; when families stand, communities stand; and when communities stand, Rivers State stands,” he stated.

Fubara assured residents that his administration would continue to draw inspiration from the sacrifices and resilience of fathers in pursuing policies and programmes aimed at building a state that rewards hard work and promotes the well-being of families.

He also prayed for good health, strength and long life for fathers, grandfathers, uncles, guardians and mentors, so they could reap the rewards of their labour and continue to guide future generations.

Father’s Day is observed annually on the third Sunday of June in Nigeria and many other countries to recognise the invaluable contributions of fathers and father figures to family life and societal development.
