GITEX Nigeria 2026: NITDA Builds on a Breakthrough First Edition to Put Digital Nigeria on the Global Stage
As Nigeria prepares to host the second edition of GITEX Nigeria from August 31 to September 3, 2026, the country’s technology ecosystem is once again gearing up for what promises to be a major gathering of innovators, investors, policymakers, technology companies and digital leaders.
But this year’s excitement is not coming from anticipation alone. It is backed by the remarkable performance of the inaugural edition held in 2025—a debut that demonstrated that Nigeria could successfully host a global-standard technology platform while creating meaningful opportunities for startups, investors, businesses and government.
The 2026 edition, themed “Beyond Connectivity, The Bridge to Sovereign Innovation,” is therefore not simply a repeat of last year’s event. It is an opportunity to build on an impressive foundation and take Nigeria’s digital ambitions to a higher level.
At the centre of this remarkable journey is the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), whose strategic leadership and partnership helped bring the internationally recognised GITEX brand to Nigeria.
When GITEX Nigeria made its debut in 2025, expectations were high. The real test, however, was whether Nigeria could translate the global reputation of GITEX into a meaningful local platform. The outcome was compelling.
According to the official 2025 post-show report, the inaugural edition attracted 12,433 attendees, more than 200 investors, over 75 participating countries, 660+ exhibiting companies and startups, more than 270 speakers. The report also states that 93 per cent of exhibitors planned expansion into West Africa and Nigeria.
Perhaps the strongest evidence of the 2025 edition’s impact was the partnerships and transactions that emerged from the platform.
The event witnessed several strategic announcements, including a multi-million-dollar partnership between T2 (9mobile) and India’s Knot Solutions to advance digital transformation, a memorandum of understanding between Nigeria and Benin Republic on cross-border cooperation, and a partnership between NITDA and global cybersecurity company Kaspersky to strengthen Nigeria’s cybersecurity ecosystem.
If 2025 established GITEX Nigeria’s credibility, the 2026 edition is designed to deepen its impact. The organisers describe the 2026 event as West Africa’s largest technology and startup show, bringing together more than 150 federal and state agencies, 40 banking institutions, 300-plus investors and 1,000-plus startups, while the Startup Festival is expected to showcase more than 750 startups from Nigeria and more than 25 countries.
On August 31, Abuja will host the Leadership Summit on Digital Public Infrastructure & AI, bringing together government leaders, policymakers, regulators, AI experts and technology innovators to examine digital identity, cybersecurity, digital governance, connectivity and public services.
Lagos will then become the centre of the technology ecosystem from September 2 to 3, hosting the Tech Expo, Future Economy Conference and Startup Festival, with a dedicated FDX Nigeria programme focused on the future of finance.
Artificial intelligence will understandably occupy a prominent position in this year’s discussions. For Nigeria, the AI conversation has become increasingly important as governments and businesses explore how the technology can improve productivity, public services, healthcare, education, agriculture, financial services and national security.
The event will also provide Nigerian startups with access to international investors. The 2026 Startup Festival is expected to connect founders with investors managing more than US$200 billion in global capital. For Nigerian entrepreneurs, that could translate into investment, partnerships, market access and international expansion.
If GITEX Nigeria 2025 was the proof of concept, GITEX Nigeria 2026 is the opportunity to prove that the momentum can become a movement. And for NITDA, the initiative stands as a powerful example of what inclusive leadership, strategic partnership and a clear vision for Nigeria’s digital future can achieve.
