Tinubu Mourns Veteran Actor Taiwo Hassan, Ogogo
President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, describing his passing as a major loss to Nollywood, the Yoruba film industry and Nigeria’s creative sector.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President condoled with Ogogo’s family, colleagues, friends and fans.
Tinubu described the late actor as a distinguished artiste whose decades-long career contributed significantly to the development of Yoruba theatre and Nigerian cinema.
He also praised Ogogo for his distinctive acting style, commanding screen presence and dedication to promoting Yoruba culture and heritage through his work.
The President said the actor used his talent to tell Nigerian stories, preserve the country’s cultural heritage and entertain audiences both in Nigeria and abroad.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, the Yoruba film industry, Nollywood, and the entire Nigerian creative community,” Tinubu said.
He added: “On behalf of the Federal Government, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, friends, and millions of admirers. I pray that Almighty Allah will grant him eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
Ogogo died on Sunday after reportedly battling stage-four cancer.
He was buried on Monday in Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites, amid tributes from family members, friends and colleagues in the Nigerian film industry.
