Elder statesman and leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, has said he hopes to be remembered for his sincere service to society and a life of integrity.

Fasoranti made the remarks while speaking with the newsmen at his residence in Akure.

The nonagenarian stated that his legacy should reflect a lifetime of selfless leadership and personal discipline, noting that these values have sustained him over the years.

“I served my society sincerely, gave my all in leadership, and lived a clean life; that has sustained me,” he said.

He urged younger generations of Nigerians to embrace selflessness and commit to serving their communities, while rejecting corruption in all its forms.

“The future generations should be selfless and strive to serve their communities sincerely, giving back in meaningful ways. They should rise above corruption,” he added.

Fasoranti also advised political leaders to avoid self-centeredness, shun corrupt practices, and pursue wealth with moderation.

Speaking on broader national challenges, he called on leaders to remain open-minded and receptive to diverse ideas, stressing the importance of inclusive governance.

Reflecting on personal life lessons, Fasoranti cautioned against excessive trust, noting that people may not always reveal their true intentions.

“People can pretend to be who they are not until their true colours are revealed. It is important to keep some distance, as they might let you down,” he said.

The Afenifere leader, who will mark his 100th birthday on May 11, expressed gratitude for a long life defined by service and the opportunity to leave behind a legacy of integrity.
