The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has cautioned the public against fraudulent individuals impersonating the Commandant, Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, on social media platforms.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna, the Academy’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Reuben Kovangiya, said the attention of the NDA had been drawn to the activities of scammers using platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) to deceive unsuspecting individuals.
Kovangiya explained that the impostors were fraudulently offering fake contracts to members of the public with the intent to defraud them.
“The Academy wishes to unambiguously state that the said accounts are schemes created to deceive and defraud individuals of their hard-earned resources,” he said.
He advised the public to disregard and avoid any engagement with such fraudulent accounts, warning that any interaction with them would be at the individual’s risk.
According to him, the NDA will not be held liable for any loss arising from dealings with the impostors.
The spokesman stressed that the Academy communicates officially with the public only through its verified channels, including its website, official social media handles and reputable national newspapers.
He further clarified that the Commandant does not conduct official engagements or communication through personal social media accounts or unofficial online platforms.
Kovangiya urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
