Peter Obi Denies Claims of 2027 Vice-Presidential Ambition, Reaffirms Labour Party Loyalty
Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has addressed the misinterpretation of his recent television interview, refuting claims that he expressed interest in becoming a vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
In a series of posts on his official X account on Saturday, Obi condemned what he called “propaganda” by fifth columnists, accusing them of deliberately distorting his statements. He emphasized that he remains firmly committed to the Labour Party and is open to collaboration only with those who share his vision for Nigeria’s development.
Obi clarified that he is not driven by a desperate ambition for political office, but by a desire to see Nigeria overcome challenges such as hunger, poverty, and insecurity.
“I do not want to be preoccupied with 2027 while Nigerians are suffering,” he stated. “I remain focused on ensuring progress, not state capture.”
Obi further underscored his commitment to issues like education, stating, “We must bring millions of out-of-school children back into classrooms.”
He reiterated that his remarks were misrepresented, firmly denying any suggestion that he had agreed to become vice president. His focus, he said, is on working with like-minded individuals to build a better Nigeria, even outside of elected office.
