Plateau Crackdown: Suspected Gunrunner Arrested by Military Troops in Riyom
Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have apprehended a suspected criminal with a history of gunrunning during a night patrol in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Tukura (alias Sarti), was intercepted at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by troops of Sector 6 stationed in Sopp.The Ungwan Boka–forest axis, Riyom LGA.
Tukura was intercepted while riding a motorcycle along a notorious highway corridor known for criminal activity.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect had previously been arrested on gunrunning charges before resurfacing in the area.
“The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing detailed interrogation to uncover potential ties to wider arms-trafficking networks and criminal syndicates operating along the highway and neighboring communities,” a security source confirmed.
Troops have intensified surveillance and intelligence operations in the general area to track down potential accomplices and neutralize lingering security threats.
