The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has pledged his total dedication to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, while assuring Nigerians that his constitutional responsibility of protecting the country remains his top priority.

Musa made the commitment following his appointment as Secretary I of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the minister expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment.

He described the new assignment as a “call to higher service,” promising to discharge his responsibilities with diligence, administrative rigour and a single-minded focus on achieving victory for the APC at the 2027 polls.

Musa, however, stressed that his political assignment would not diminish his constitutional responsibilities as Minister of Defence, particularly the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the lives and property of citizens.

“National security remains our highest imperative,” the minister stated.

He assured Nigerians that ongoing military operations, strategic reforms and inter-agency collaborations within the defence sector would continue without interruption and with increased vigour.

“Our resolve to uphold the mandate of the Ministry of Defence, protect our people, and drive Mr. President’s vision for a safe and prosperous Nigeria remains firm and unshakeable,” he said.

The Defence Minister also called on APC members and patriotic Nigerians to remain united behind the Tinubu administration, expressing confidence that the ruling party would record success at the 2027 presidential election.

He further said the administration would continue to focus on delivering effective governance and strengthening security across the country.

Musa’s appointment to the campaign council comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election intensify, with the APC mobilising its structures and key figures for the electoral contest.

The minister’s dual commitment to the campaign assignment and national security underscores the balancing of political responsibilities with the constitutional mandate of the Ministry of Defence as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
