Tunisian Delegation Arrives in Nigeria for Economic Forum, Strengthening Bilateral Ties
A 20-member business delegation from Tunisia has arrived in Nigeria for the Nigeria-Tunisia Economic Forum, which aims to explore new investment opportunities and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Led by the President of the Tunisia Africa Business Council, Anis Jaziri, the delegation was welcomed by Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohsen Antit, upon their arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday.
The weeklong forum, tagged “Multisectoral Economic Mission in Nigeria,” will officially begin on Tuesday and run until Friday. It is organized in collaboration with Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment. The event is expected to boost bilateral relations, focusing on diverse sectors such as construction, IT, health, renewable energy, and pharmaceuticals.
Jaziri noted the unprecedented size of the delegation, which represents multiple sectors of Tunisia’s economy. “We aim to create real opportunities between Tunisia and Nigeria, and explore the potential for strong economic cooperation across various industries,” he said.
Ambassador Antit emphasized the strategic importance of Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, as a key partner in promoting intra-African trade. He also highlighted the success of a previous economic forum held in Tunisia earlier this year, which saw participation from over 35 Nigerian companies.
Nigeria’s exports to Tunisia reached $35.72 million in 2023, with key trade items including gypsum and salt, according to United Nations COMTRADE data. The forum seeks to expand this trade further, creating partnerships that could drive growth in both nations’ economies.
