Vietnam-Bound Businessman Excretes 68 Wraps of Cocaine After 12-Day NDLEA Observation

Ibeanusi Nosike, a businessman from Onitsha, Anambra State, excreted 68 wraps of cocaine after spending 12 days under observation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The 36-year-old was arrested on August 8, 2024, while attempting to board a flight to Abuja en route to Vietnam.

According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, Nosike had swallowed the cocaine pellets before his arrest, which was based on intelligence received by the agency. He was scheduled to join a Qatar Airways flight to Vietnam from Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. After 12 days in the NDLEA’s excretion observation room, the total weight of the retrieved cocaine pellets was 1.282 kilograms.

This is the second arrest of a Vietnam-bound drug trafficker in recent days. On August 12, 2024, Paul Mbadugha, a 54-year-old businessman, was arrested at Abuja airport while attempting to board a flight to Vietnam. Mbadugha excreted 88 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.710 kilograms, after four days of observation.

In a related operation, NDLEA operatives arrested Aligbo Chukwudi, another businessman from Onitsha, after a 1.2-kilogram shipment of cannabis destined for Dubai was intercepted at Lagos airport. The consignment was traced back to Onitsha, leading to Chukwudi’s arrest.

In other anti-drug operations, five female drug traffickers were arrested at the Seme border while returning from Ghana with 6.97 kilograms of cannabis concealed on their bodies. The syndicate, led by Olaribigbe Feyisara, was under NDLEA surveillance before their capture.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives at Tincan seaport intercepted two containers from India carrying 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup, valued at over N2.2 billion.

Further arrests were made in various states, including Edo and Lagos, with suspects caught in possession of cannabis, codeine, and other illicit substances. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the agency’s operatives for their ongoing efforts in the fight against drug trafficking and urged them to continue their diligent work in drug control across the country.
