In a renewed effort to enhance teaching and learning in public schools, the Kano State Government on Thursday distributed 120,000 cartons of chalk to schools across the state.

The distribution exercise, which took place at the premises of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), was overseen by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, who described the initiative as part of the current administration’s broader commitment to revitalising the education sector.

Dr. Makoda emphasised that the gesture reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s determination to provide the necessary tools for a conducive learning environment.

“The administration is determined to ensure a conducive and effective teaching atmosphere. What we are witnessing today is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the education sector,” the commissioner stated.

He further recalled that in October 2023, Governor Yusuf flagged off the distribution of instructional materials worth billions of naira to schools in all 44 local government areas of the state. The items distributed at the time included textbooks, exercise books, whiteboards, whiteboard markers, school bags, sandals, and uniforms.

Dr. Makoda urged school heads to ensure the judicious use of the chalks to maximise their impact on classroom delivery.

In his remarks, the Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, lauded the state government’s sustained efforts to reposition education, pledging that the chalks would be delivered to all designated schools for proper utilisation.

The event was attended by top officials from the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
