Nicki Minaj to Join U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz in Address on Christian Persecution in Nigeria
American rap icon Nicki Minaj is set to appear alongside U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz at a high-profile event addressing the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. The engagement, first reported by Time magazine correspondent Eric Cordellessa, is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 18.
The event was convened by Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz, who is also expected to deliver remarks. Waltz described the partnership as both timely and significant, praising Minaj as “arguably the greatest female recording artist” and a “principled individual” who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice. He expressed gratitude for her willingness to use her global platform to spotlight violence against Christian communities in Nigeria.
Minaj, in a statement, said she was honored to participate. “Ambassador, I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude,” she said. “The Barbz and I will never stand down in the face of injustice. We have been given our influence by God. There must be a bigger purpose.”
The rapper has recently been vocal about issues of religious freedom, reacting earlier this month to former President Donald Trump’s comments that Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria. Minaj emphasized the importance of protecting religious rights worldwide, noting that “no group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion” and warning against ignoring global cases of religious oppression.
Tuesday’s event will detail steps the administration says it is taking to address the crisis. Minaj and Ambassador Waltz are expected to deliver joint remarks outlining the urgency of the situation and proposed actions moving forward.
