In recognition of his outstanding leadership, patriotic service and contributions to national security and humanity, OurNigeria News Magazine has named the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), as its 2025 Man of the Year.
The prestigious honour, according to the magazine, followed wide consultations, recommendations from its readers and correspondents, as well as the approval of the Board, Management and Award Planning Committee of OurNigeria News.
The organisers said General Musa emerged for his “distinctive performance, statesmanlike contribution, strategic leadership, undiluted loyalty and zealous service to Nigeria.”
In a letter dated 22 December 2025 and signed by the Chairman of the Award Planning Committee, Sir AK Peters, OurNigeria News formally informed the Defence Minister of his emergence as Man of the Year 2025, describing the award as a recognition of his impact in public service and national leadership.
The 2025 edition of the OurNigeria News award, themed “Providing a Podium for Unsung Heroes,” is part of the organisation’s annual initiative aimed at celebrating Nigerians who have made remarkable contributions to national development and humanity. The event is expected to attract top government officials, policymakers and other prominent personalities.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence has officially acknowledged the honour. In a letter dated 23 December 2025, the Ministry confirmed that the Honourable Minister has been duly informed of the nomination and that necessary arrangements are being coordinated with the organisers.
The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on January 31, 2026 in Abuja, where General Musa is expected to be formally honoured alongside other distinguished Nigerians.
General Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, has been widely commended for his leadership in strengthening Nigeria’s defence and security architecture, as well as his commitment to national unity and service, qualities which OurNigeria News said informed its decision to name him “Man of the Year 2025.”
