The Police Command in Nasarawa State has foiled an armed robbery attack at a Mobil Filling station on the Akwanga–Keffi Road and arrested two suspects.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lafia.

Nansel said that the incident occurred on Jan. 27 at about 12:10 a.m., when five armed men invaded the filling station, tied up the security guard on duty, broke into the office and carted away an unspecified sum of money.

He said that patrol teams attached to the Akwanga Division were swiftly deployed to the scene following a distress call, leading to a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects.

“During the operation, two male suspects, from Rijiyan Zaki, Kano State, were arrested, while three other members of the gang escaped in a black Toyota Camry used for the operation,” he said.

According to the police spokesman, items recovered from the suspects include three 4-litre gallons of Mobil engine oil, a cash sum of N418,000, one motorcycle key and two bags.

He added that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, claiming they were traders in Kano State who resorted to armed robbery after losing their goods in a motor accident.

Nansel said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, had ordered detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to intensify efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

The commissioner also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
