Four Children Among Eight Injured in Coney Island Shooting on US Independence Day

At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a late-night shooting in the Coney Island neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York City, during US Independence Day celebrations.

According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 10:37 p.m. on Saturday on West 31st Street in Brooklyn.

The victims included two men, two women and four children aged 14, 12, 7 and 6. All eight victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police said seven of the victims were in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman remained in critical condition.

Investigators recovered a firearm from the scene, but no arrests had been made as of Sunday morning. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The incident occurred during Independence Day festivities, when large crowds had gathered across New York City to celebrate the July 4 holiday.
