Nigerian audiences are showing an increasing appetite for high-stakes action and emotionally driven storytelling, with ‘Ride or Die’ emerging as the most-watched film on Prime Video in the country this week.

The action thriller, which follows two fugitives on a perilous journey of survival and redemption, raced to the top of Nigeria’s Prime Video chart, reflecting viewers’ growing preference for fast-paced narratives filled with suspense, danger and emotional depth.

Its rise to the summit underscores the dominance of action-driven productions on streaming platforms, where compelling plots and edge-of-the-seat storytelling continue to shape viewing habits.

Trailing closely behind is ‘Project Hail Mary’, a science fiction adventure that transports audiences into space as a lone astronaut embarks on a desperate mission to save humanity from extinction. The film secured the second position, further highlighting the popularity of large-scale adventure and science fiction among Nigerian viewers.

Psychological drama also found a place among the week’s favourites, with ‘Elle’ taking third place. The film delves into themes of resilience, trauma and revenge, offering audiences an emotionally layered narrative that contrasts with the adrenaline-fuelled action dominating the rankings.

At number four is ‘The Anniversary’, a family drama that explores relationships, hidden truths and long-buried secrets, while ‘A Working Man’, another action thriller centred on a former military operative pulled back into a dangerous mission, completed the top five.

Romance also maintained a foothold on the chart through ‘See You At Work Tomorrow’, which occupied sixth place with its story of unexpected connections and second chances.

The appetite for action remained evident in seventh position, where ‘Dirty Angels’ tells the story of an elite team undertaking a high-risk rescue mission, blending military strategy with intense combat sequences.

Youth-focused storytelling also resonated with viewers. ‘Off Campus’, a coming-of-age drama exploring friendship, romance and university life, claimed the eighth spot, appealing particularly to younger audiences navigating similar experiences.

Political intrigue and global espionage featured prominently in ninth place with ‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War’, an action thriller that follows CIA analyst Jack Ryan as he confronts an escalating international security threat.

Completing the week’s top 10 is ‘The Sheep Detectives’, a family-friendly mystery adventure in which an unlikely group of sheep work together to solve a puzzling case, offering lighter entertainment amid a chart largely dominated by action and suspense.

The latest rankings reveal a clear trend in Nigeria’s streaming landscape, with action thrillers accounting for the majority of the top-performing titles. However, the presence of science fiction, psychological drama, romance, family stories and coming-of-age narratives also points to an audience with increasingly diverse viewing tastes.

As streaming competition intensifies, platforms such as Prime Video continue to attract viewers through a broad mix of genres, but this week’s chart leaves little doubt that action-packed storytelling remains the biggest draw for Nigerian audiences.
